The Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders for a conditional 2nd round draft pick in 2014 or 2015. Thomas has taken this year off from hockey so Tukka Rask has been the starting goaltender for the Bruins.

Tim Thomas has won the Vezina Trophy twice and the Conn Smythe Trophy once after his incredible performance leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup in 2011.

Do you think this was a smart move by the Bruins? Will Tim Thomas return next season or is his career over? Stay tuned to find out!!

The Montreal Canadiens told forward Scott Gomez to stay home this season but that’s not going to be the case. Gomez was bought out by the Canadiens and placed on waivers where he was signed to a one year contract by the San Jose Sharks.

Gomez had a terrible season last with the Canadiens, recording only 2 goals and 9 assists in 38 games. In 196 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Gomez had a disappointing 21 goals and 87 assists.

Scott Gomez is expected to make his San Jose Shark debut tonight against the Colorado Avalanche. Will this be a new beginning for Gomez or will his scoring slump continue? Stay tuned to find out!

The NHL and the NHLPA have finally reached an agreement after a 16 hour marathon meeting. Here are some of the details of the new tentative 10 year collective bargaining agreement:

1. the player’s share of hockey related revenue will be 50 percent for all 10 years.

2. the 10 year deal also has a opt out clause after 8 years.

3. the salary cap will be $64.3 million for year 2.

4. a player contract term limit for free agents will be 7 years and 8 years for a team signing it’s own player.

5. revenue sharing between teams will be $200 million.

6. the draft lottery will change so that all 14 teams are eligible for the first overall draft pick.

There’s a look at some of the bigger changes in the new collective bargaining agreement but do you think there has been too much damage done to the fans of the NHL. Will you watch hockey this year or any other year for that matter? Hockey fans everywhere are feeling mixed emotions today as the hear the news that the lockout is over. Some, like myself, are feeling joy and anger over the fact that the lockout has went on this long. The greed of both the owners and players have ruined another great sport. I myself am not sure if hockey will be able to recover from this lockout. Fans everywhere are talking about boycotting the NHL. The NHL players and owners have shown no respect for their fans. Even the continued pleas of the fans didn’t matter to them. What will you do? Will you watch hockey this season or are you done with the greed of the NHL?

On Thursday the NHL’s owners voted unanimously to lockout their hockey players unless an agreement could made by Saturday. No agreement was reached so as of today the hockey players are officially locked out and the NHL has once again left their fans in the cold. With the collective bargaining agreement expiring at Midnight on Saturday this hockey season could be over before it even starts.

The hockey players in the NHL are now looking to Europe for work. Players like Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar have already signed with the KHL and I am sure other players will be headed overseas as well.

The Montreal Canadiens filed an injunction in Quebec to try to prevent being lockout, however the Quebec Labour Board denied their request. The players offered to continue playing hockey while negotiations were still underway but Gary Bettman said the league will not operate without reaching a new collective bargaining agreement.

The NHL released a statement to fans saying they are committed to working around the clock to resolve this matter. In my opinion they have had enough time to negotiate and now they need to come together for the love of the game and for the sake of their fans. Both sides need to come to an agreement over the revenue sharing because if we have a season without hockey there won’t be any revenue to be shared.

If the NHL’s owners and players care about their fans as much as they say they do they will have to get their act together and end this lockout before it ruins the another whole season of hockey!

The Colorado Avalanche have announced that rookie Gabriel Landeskog will be the new captain of their team. This makes Landeskog the youngest captain in NHL history. Former Avalanche captain Milan Hejduk stepped down but will remain as an assistant captain alongside of Paul Stastny.

Gabriel Landeskog was the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 Entry Draft and he had an impressive rookie season scoring 22 goals and 30 assists. Landeskog won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year. At only 19 years of age Landeskog has a lot to look forward to but will the rookie be ready to lead his team to victory. What do you think?

It looks like we might be without hockey to watch this season as Commissioner Gary Bettman can’t seem to come to terms with the NHL Players’ Association. The NHL owners’ want their employees (the players) to work for less money and the NHL hockey players just want to be treated fairly. When you compare other professional sports leagues to hockey, hockey players are actually one of the least paid athletes.

Yes we all know the NHL has survived a lockout before and I am sure they will again however as hockey fans we DON”T want another lockout. We want to see our favorite hockey players hit the ice when the season opens in October. I’m beginning to wonder if Commissioner Bettman even cares about the NHL. The hockey players are the ones that sell out the seats in the arenas, fans don’t buy jerseys or merchandise with Gary Bettman’s name on it so the league executives need to pay the players for their skill and contribution to the game. All the players want is to be treated fairly and paid accordingly. Is that too much to ask? Please feel free to give me your point of view on the impending lockout. As hockey players they deserve to be treated better and as hockey fans we deserve to be able to watch the sport we love.

Former Washington Capitals forward Alexander Semin signed a one year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. The deal will pay Semin $7 million for the year. Semin had 21 goals and 33 assists last season with the Capitals. He has been with the Capitals for all seven of his NHL seasons and he has scored at least 25 goals in six of those seven seasons.

The Carolina Hurricanes are shaping up to be a powerful team this season with newly acquired Jordan Staal and now adding Alexander Semin to the team will give them an unstoppable offense. The Hurricanes are pulling out all the stops by added top forwards like Staal and Semin to their line-up. I can’t wait to see what next season holds for the Hurricanes.

The Nashville Predators have matched the Philadelphia Flyers offer of a 14 year contract worth $110 million to Shea Weber. Weber has been a franchise defenseman for the Predators and he will continue to wear their uniform for the next 14 years. He had 49 points last season and was nominated for the Norris Trophy.

The Philadelphia Flyers will have to continue their search for an all-star defenseman now that Weber is off the market.
