The Montreal Canadiens just announced their new general manager Marc Bergevin last week and it seems like Bergevin has gotten right to work. There are reports that Bergevin has brought in Toronto Maple Leafs Rick Dudley to be his assistant general manager. Dudley worked in the front office for the Maple Leafs organization. He has served as general manager for the Atlanta Thrashers, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers so at least Bergevin is bringing in someone with experience. Bergevin and Dudley have a history together from their days in Chicago when Dudley was a huge part of rebuilding the Blackhawks organization.
The new GM will have his hands full trying to right the ship in Montreal but it seems like he is jumping with both feet to get the job done. Randy Cunneyworth has been demoted to assistant coach until a new head coach is hired and then Cunneyworth’s fate will be in the hands of the head coach. There is still no word on who will be the next head coach of the Montreal Canadiens but I would expect an announcement soon especially with the 2012 NHL Entry Draft coming up on June 22-23rd. The Canadiens organization will need to work together to decide which direction they want the Canadiens team to go in. Will they start their rebuild now or will they try to pick up a few talented players in draft to make the team more effective. Whichever they decide Marc Bergevin is going to have his hands full trying to bring the Canadiens back to greatness!
