The Vancouver Canucks fall short yet again. The 8th seeded Los Angeles Kings defeated the Canucks last night 2-1 in overtime to win the series 4 games to 1. The Canucks dug themselves an early hole losing the first 3 games of the series. They made the decision to start Cory Schneider in goal in game 4 and they managed to pull off a victory. Despite getting the lead early in last night’s game the Canucks weren’t able to hold on.
The Los Angeles Kings will now have to face the St. Louis Blues in round two of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs. We are all expecting this series to come down to a battle of the goaltenders. Jonathan Quick has been exceptional in goal for the Kings but the Blues goaltenders Brian Elliot and Jaroslav Halak have dominated the NHL this season.
The Vancouver Canucks will now join the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks on the sidelines as they have all been eliminated from playoff contention. Most people predicted a Vancouver Canucks/Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup final but this just goes to show you that anything can happen in the post-season!
