The Capitals Clinch A Playoff Spot

With a 4-2 victory tonight the Washington Capitals have secured the 8th and final playoff spot in the East. Scoring for Washington was Jay Beagle, Alexander Ovechkin, Brooks Laich and Alexander Semin.

Capitals goaltender Michal Neuvirth had to leave the game when ex-Capitals player Marco Sturm fell on his left leg. Neuvirth needed assistance to get off the ice and he did not return to the game. Braden Holtby replaced Neuvirth in net.

The Buffalo Sabres lost to the Philadelphia Flyers ending their bid for a playoff spot. Flyers rookie Matt Read scored the game winning goal with just under 5 minutes left in the game. The Flyers are currently in 5th place in the East.

NHL teams that are moving onto the playoffs in the Eastern Conference are New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators and now the Washington Capitals.
