Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has turned down the invitation to represent Canada at the World Hockey Championship next month. Crosby has had problems with concussions throughout the last two seasons however he’s been back on the ice for a while now. The Penguins were just eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by their rivals the Philadelphia Flyers so that opened the door for Crosby to join Team Canada in May.
Crosby decided he didn’t want to represent Canada this time around because he would rather focus on training for next season. Most players would die to represent their country but not Crosby. He has better things to do! Come on Sid! I understand that training is important so that you can get stronger for next season but the World Hockey Championship is only about two weeks long.
I know Crosby has represented Canada at the Winter Olympics, the World Juniors and the World Championships but if it were me I would jump at the chance to represent my country again!
I am not trying to single out Crosby I just think that any players that doesn’t want to represent his country deserves to be talked about!

Have no issue with Crosby recovering from his injury plaqued 2 years, his health is his primary concern and he said he would represent Canada in a heartbeat but not this time.
No one includinng the IIHF has anything to say about it, that has any relevance.
What happens if some third tier hokcey player ran him and he misses next season, could happen!
I agree with Brian. Everyone was hoping he’d join Team Canada, and I was certainly no exception. Normally, I get irritated when a snub takes place. Don’t Worry, there’s plenty wanting to join, but in this case Sid has been through the ringer, and it’s time to make sure he’s OK. A hockey career is relatively short compared to a life span, and you want to ensure some quality of life, when the career is over.
