Philly Takes Game 1

The Philadelphia Flyers pulled off a 4-3 win against the New Jersey Devils. The Flyers had a slow start in the first period but goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov kept them in it. The Flyers came on strong in the 2nd and 3rd periods but this game would require overtime. Scoring in regulation for the Flyers were Danny Briere, James van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux. Scoring for the Devils were Zach Parise, Travis Zajac and Petr Sykora.

Danny Briere scored in overtime but it was disallowed upon video review because the puck was kicked into the net. However, Briere managed to score another goal just minutes later from the blue line to win the game for the Flyers.

Both goaltenders Ilya Bryzgalov and Martin Brodeur had shaky starts in this series. Brodeur mishandled the puck on numerous occasions and looked very tired throughout the whole game. Bryzgalov let in a weak goal which allowed the Devils to tie the game late in the 3rd period.
