The Philadelphia Flyers made a huge comeback last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh had a 3-1 lead after the first period but Claude Giroux came out flying in the 2nd period scoring a powerplay goal and then a shorthanded goal. The score went back and forth for a while but it was rookie Sean Couturier who came up big for the Flyers when they needed him. Couturier netted his first career hat-trick to help the Flyers beat the Penguins 8-5. Couturier had 27 points during the regular season but he has stepped up just at the right time. Only two games into the post season he already has 4 points.
The Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be coming out of the gate strong but they are failing to finish the job. Last night was the 2nd time the Penguins blew their lead and lost the game. Losing on home ice isn’t a good start to this playoff series. The Penguins are playing a fast loose game of hockey which can be very dangerous in the post season. They will need to make some changes if they want to dig themselves out of this whole they are in.
Either way this has been the best series for far in the playoffs. It has lots of scoring, some big hits and some major saves. The Penguins/Flyers rivalry adds energy to each game. Definitely the best 1st round match up!
