As the search for the Montreal Canadiens new general manager continues Geoff Molson will have to cross Vincent Damphousse off his list. Damphousse has respectively declined consideration for the general manager’s position because he wants to focus on his family at this time.
However the names of other candidates have come to light. Chicago Blackhawks assistant general manager Marc Bergevin has been contacted by the Canadiens and player agent Pat Brisson has also had some discussions with the Canadiens organization. Toronto Maple Leafs have been asked if they would be willing to allow assistant general manager Claude Loiselle to speak with the Canadiens.
But in my opinion the front runner is Tampa Bay Lightning assistant general managerĀ Julien BriseBois. He’s a former Canadiens executive so he knows the team and he knows the history.
Another name that has been dropped is Francois Giguere. He’s the former general manager of the Colorado Avalanche.
It is still pretty early in the process and I’m sure the list will get longer before it gets shorter but one thing is for sure the Geoff Molson and Serge Savard will have their hands full finding the perfect candidate for the Montreal Canadiens‘ new general manager.
