And The Winner Is?

Well now that the regular has finished the winners of this years awards have been named. First of all I would like to congratulate the Vancouver Canucks on winner their 2nd straight Presidents’ Trophy.

Now here are your 2011-12 NHL award winners:

Evgeni Malkin wins the Art Ross Trophy for the player with the most points during the regular season. This is Malkin’s second time winning this award. He has 109 points during the regular season. He dominated the NHL with he play-making abilities this season and came thru when the Pittsburgh Penguins needed him the most scoring 9 game winning goals.

Steven Stamkos wins the Maurice Richard Trophy for the player with the most goals during the regular season. This is Stamkos’ second time winning this award. He has joined a very small group of the NHL hockey players that have scored 60 goals during the regular season. He is only the 2nd player since 1995-96 to score 60 goals.

The St. Louis Blues goaltenders Brian Elliot and Jaroslav Halak have won the William Jennings Trophy for the hockey club that allowed the fewest goals during the regular season. This was their first time winning this award. They only allowed 165 goals during the regular season and they combined for a league leading 15 shutouts. The tied the record set by the Chicago Blackhawks goaltender’s Glenn Hall and Jacques Plante set in 1968-69. Elliot and Halak are also the first goaltender duo in NHL history to record at least 6 shutouts each.

Brian Elliot is the first St. Louis Blues goaltender to have 9 shutouts during the regular season. He leads the league with a 1.56 goals against average and a .940 save percentage.

Jaroslav Halak is ranked 5th overall in the NHL with a 1.97 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. He won a career high 8 consecutive games including 6 on the road.

The NHL Awards will be held on June 20, 2012 at the Wynn Las Vegas. You can see Malkin, Stamkos, Elliot and Halak receive their awards then!
