The Race For 8th Heats Up

In the Eastern Conference the race for the 8th and final playoff spot just got a lot more interesting. With a 3-1 win last night the Buffalo Sabres moved into 8th place just 2 points a head of the Washington Capitals. But you can’t forget about the Winnipeg Jets who are hot on their heals in 10th place. The Jets loss last night puts them six points back on the 8th spot but they still have plenty of time to catch up before the end of the season. The Ottawa Senators are currently sitting in 7th place with 86 points but they have only won 4 out of their last 10 games so they could easily fall out of playoff contention if another team goes on a winning streak.

In the Western Conference the race for 8th is a close race. The Los Angeles Kings currently hold the spot but their is a 3-way tie between them, the San Jose Sharks and the Colorado Avalanche. The Calgary Flames aren’t out of it yet. They have 83 points just 3 points back of the 8th place team but they will have to get on a winning streak and keep it going if they plan of overcoming the rest of the teams and making the playoffs. The Phoenix Coyotes hold the 7th place spot right now with 87 points but with 3 teams only 1 point behind them they will need to some big wins in their near future if they plan on making it to the post season.

As the playoff race heats up in both Conferences it is unpredictable what might happen. With desperation and their reputation on the line these teams will stop at nothing to make the post season. Players get on scoring streaks, goaltenders get hot and the unthinkable can happen. In the end it is all going to come down to who wants it more and who is willing to play 110% to get it. This is one of the most exciting times the year in hockey and I for one can’t wait to see the outcome. With only 7 or 8 games left in the regular season the time to shine is now. If you want to win get out there and score goals. This is the NHL no one is going to give you a victory, you have to go in and take it. You need to win for your teams, your families and your fans because this is hockey and no one wants their season to end prematurely. In the end everyone wants the same thing you just need to get out there and win it! LET THE RACE BEGIN!!!
