The Calgary Flames 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche last night did not help their playoff chances. They have only 3 games left in their season and they need to win them all. They are 4 points back of the 8th place team but with so many teams pushing for the playoffs it is possible that even if they do win all 3 games they still might not make the playoffs.
The Flames currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with 85 points but that just isn’t good enough. Jarome Iginla was the only Flames player that was able to get on the scoreboard last night and Miikka Kiprusoff only made a total of 20 saves last night. If the Flames want to win they need to get more shots on net and they need to be strong in front of Kiprusoff. You can’t blame a goaltender for a loss since you opponents need to get thru 5 other players to even get to the goalie but an NHL goaltender should be making more than 20 saves in a game.
The worst part about last night’s loss was that the players on the Flames team don’t even know which net to shoot at. Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester scored on his own goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead just 3 minutes into the game. It was all downhill from there for the Flames.
I mean the Flames haven’t had a terrible season. They have stayed in the thick of things right until the end but by the looks of it they are going to come up short this season. I would like to see them make the playoffs but at the rate they are going it is highly unlikely.
As it stands right now they only Canadian teams that will make the playoffs are the Vancouver Canucks and possibly the Ottawa Senators. The Senators sit in 7th right now in the East but eager teams are closing in on them so the next few days are going to be exciting for Ottawa fans.
