The Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has been having an incredible season this year. Malkin leads the NHL with 93 points and is 2nd overall with 43 goals. Steven Stamkos has the most goals with 50 and until recently was neck and neck with Malkin for the lead in points but Malkin’s recent scoring spree has given him a nine point lead over Stamkos. Malkin will without a doubt be the recipient of the Art Ross Trophy for the player that has the most points during the regular season. He won the Art Ross Trophy in the 2008-09 season when he recorded 113 points.
Malkin has played some great hockey and in the absence of Sidney Crosby he has really stepped up for Pittsburgh. With the Penguins having some many injuries at the beginning of the season Malkin was able to give the players and fans something to look forward too. He has played 65 games this season and has recorded 93 points including 9 game winning goals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been on a winning streak as of late. They won 11 games in a row before finally losing to the Philadelphia Flyers. Pittsburgh is only 1 point back of the 1st place New York Rangers with ten games remaining in the regular season. Now with the return of Sidney Crosby to the line-up the playoff hopes have changed to Stanley Cup hopes. The Penguins have a real shot at the Cup this year and Evgeni Malkin was a huge part of making this all possible. Most people believe their is no other choice than Evgeni Malkin for MVP and I tend to agree with them. He’s had an incredible season and he has the ability to carry the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup. You can’t ask for a better hockey player than Malkin!
