The Washington Capitals will get their star forward back tonight as they take on the Montreal Canadiens. Nicklas Backstrom has been out of the line-up since he suffered a concussion on January 3rd. Backstrom took an elbowed in the head from Rene Bourque while playing against the Calgary Flames.
The irony is that Backstrom will return and have to face Bourque in his first game back now that Bourque plays for the Montreal Canadiens. Even with being out of the line-up for so many games, the 24 year old Swedish hockey player is still 5th on the Capitals team in scoring. He has 42 points this season including 13 goals. The fact that he has only played in 38 games this season those stats are pretty remarkable.
Backstrom is expected to play alongside of Alexander Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson tonight when they take on the Canadiens. But tonight’s game will be worth a whole lot more to Backstrom. This is his chance to get back on the ice and help his team secure the 8th and finally playoff spot. The Capitals can sweep the Canadiens with a win tonight since they have won the 3 previous meetings this season. The history between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals will make tonight’s game even more interesting since Backstrom has a chance to face the man that injured him and have a chance to add a nail to the coffin of the last place Montreal Canadiens.
