A Must Win For Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Jets travel to Washington tonight to face the 8th place Capitals. The Jets are currently in 10th place with 76 points. They trail the Capitals by five points and with a loss tonight their Jets season would pretty much be over. Winnipeg has lost two straight games but they have Canadians everywhere praying that they can pull off a win tonight to get back on track and back into the race for a playoff spot. However they will have to do it tonight without Eric Fehr, Nic Antropov and Chris Thorburn who are all out with injuries. The good news for the Jets is that Andrew Ladd has been hot as of late and he will be looking to carry his momentum into tonight’s game in Washington.

The Capitals are in a must win situation as well. The Buffalo Sabres are knocking on their door as their are now only 1 point behind the 8th place Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin has finally found his groove scoring 6 goals in his last 5 games. After a rocky start this season Ovechkin seems to be back on track and it couldn’t of came at a better time as the playoffs rapidly approach. Tomas Vokoun is out of the line-up with a groin injury and Alexander Semin missed Thursday’s game with a lower-body injury. Michal Neuvirth is expected to start in goal tonight.

As the playoffs near the every game is important but tonight is extremely important for both of these teams. A win for Winnipeg could change their entire season. Wouldn’t it be perfect if the Winnipeg Jets made the playoffs in their first season back in Winnipeg? I think it would be absolutely perfect. A win for Washington would increase their lead and help them secure the 8th place spot in the East. Tonight is a must win for both teams but in a game like hockey anything can happen!
