The Buffalo Sabres came out strong tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers but they weren’t able to keep things going. Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek scored in the first period to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead.
It was all down hill from their for the Sabres. The Flyers scored 7 unanswered goals to beat the Sabres 7-2. Maxime Talbot had 2 goals tonight, Wayne Simmonds had 2 back-to-back powerplay goals and other goals were scored by Eric Gustafsson, Jakub Voracek and Scott Hartnell. Claude Giroux got 5 assists tonight for the Flyers.
Sabres goaltender Jonas Enroth was pulled in the second period and Ryan Miller came up to relieve him. Ilya Bryzgalov faced 29 shots on goal but managed to hand on for a win for the Flyers.The Sabres have now lost 3 in a row.
This was a costly win for the Philadelphia Flyers losing Danny Briere to an upper-body injury in the first period. Then the Flyers lost Tom Sestito to a lower-body injury in the 2nd period. With these guys out of the line-up along side of Jaromir Jagr and James van Reimsdyk the Flyers are going to need their healthy players to step up and fill the void.
The Flyers next hockey game is against the also injury-ridden Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon.
