Flames Heat Up, Now Sitting in 8th

The Calgary Flames climbed into a playoff spot with a win over the Los Angeles Kings last night. Newly acquired Mike Cammalleri scored the games only goal about 5 minutes into the 3rd period. Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves against the Kings. This was Kiprusoff’s 44th career shutout. Calgary is now 5-2-3 in their last 10 games and they have really stepped up their game since a devastating 9-0 loss to the Boston Bruins in January.

The Flames next match-up is against Alberta rivals the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. The young Oilers team has had a tough year and are currently in 14th place in the Western Conference. Calgary will need to keep winning in order to stay in 8th place but when they play the Oilers anything can happen. With such a big rivalry games like this are worth more than just 2 points, its worth bragging rights.

Cammalleri was the hero for the Flames last night but will he be able to do it again? Stay tuned to find out!
