There are so many NHL hockey players out with concussions as of late. It’s becoming a real problem and what is the NHL doing to prevent this from happening to their players?
I know Brendan Shanahan is in charge of player safety and has been doing a good job at trying to eliminate shots to the head in the NHL but not all concussions are from illegal hits. There are numerous players out with concussion-like symptoms from just accidently colliding with their opponent and in some cases even their own teammate.
I understand that hockey is much faster than what it once was and players are hitting a lot harder but there must be something that can be done to at reduce the number of injuries. This is a serious matter; it’s not just a player here and there being hurt. It is the players that are very important to their hockey teams both on and off the ice. Players like Sidney Crosby, Chris Pronger, Max Pacioretty and Jeff Skinner are some of the ones being sidelined by these injuries.
Now rumor has it that a certain sport’s equipment company is working with Toronto Maple Leafs James Reimer to develop equipment to better protect the head of hockey players. Take for example football players, their sport has a lot of hitting and injuries but you don’t hear a lot about concussions in the NFL. Maybe we should look into what is being used to make NFL helmets? Obviously they can’t be the exact same helmet but there might be some things that we can change to help the NHL better protect their hockey players.
Either way something needs to be done to prevent the hockey players from getting concussions. The player’s health needs to remain the priority of the NHL. The fans want to see all their favorite hockey players on the ice not on a stretcher!!!
